Special Features
Cartier is considered a dynasty of elegance, style, and ultimate craftsmanship.
Throughout its history, a number of innovations and milestones have helped to firmly
establish the company as a leader. Their creation of the wristwatch (as opposed
to the then-typical pocket watch) was a daring move - one that revolutionized the
industry and remains one of the greatest innovations of watchmaking to this day..
Among the company's special features:
-
The first tonneau wristwatch was created by the Cartier artists in 1906. It did
not go on sale until 1911.
-
Pierre Cartier sold the blue "Hope" diamond in 1910 (previously purchased by Louis
in 1909).
-
In 1912, the first mystery clock was released by the company.
- Cartier is credited for creating one of the first truly water resistant watches,
the Tank, which debuted during the First World War (1933).
